Full Description
Bracondale Tower.
Adjacent building 58 Bracondale (Tower House) now recorded separetely as NHER 62455.
1954. Listed Grade II*.
Listing Description Excerpt:
"Tower and adjoining retaining wall to rear of No 58. Early 17th century, possibly earlier and contemporary with No 54 " (Manor House; NHER 26027). "Brick and flint rubble on lower part, brick above. On split-level site: three storeys and basement. Rear elevation: Flight of 20th-century steps up to 19th-/20th-century plank door on right with three-centred arch under moulded brick pediment."

Examined by Norfolk Archaeological Unit staff and S. Heywood (NCC).
Due to limited resources a full survey was not possible, although detailed photography was undertaken and an architectural description written.

Observation of trench dug along south-west wall of tower; exposed foundations and evidence showing that land surface to south of retaining wall had been lowered.

1994. Documentary Research.
Detailed research into history of Tower House (NHER 62455) and Bracondale Tower.
In the period 1565-1631 one or two houses was built on the site. Between 1747 and 1767 the two messuages were converted into one. An alehouse was run on the site until c1783.
