Summary

This is the site of the famous Poringland Heath windmill, reputed to have been the highest standing windmill in the country. It was replaced by a tower mill in 1825 and this was last used in 1900 before its demolition in 1906.

This was the famous Poringland Heath mill, which had the reputation of being the highest standing mill in the country.
It is also marked on (S2)
E. Rose (NAU/NLA).

In fact however both mills at Upper Sheringham and Briningham were on higher ground. It was replaced by a tower mill in 1825 and last used 1900. Demolished in 1906.
