Full Description
March 2006. Norfolk NMP.
A wreck is visible as an extant structure on aerial photographs (S1)-(S3), centred at TG 5063 0777. The relatively intact state of the wreck suggests that it is probably late post medieval or modern in date. It may have been placed (or left) at this location to consolidate the southwest edge of the channel in which it lies (named Ship Drain on Ordnance Survey maps). A wreck identified 165m to the southwest (NHER 41626) during the field survey stage of the Norfolk Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey could equate to this site, as the location recorded by the survey was extremely approximate. The description of the site on the original context sheet (context 171; see (S4)) states that it lies on the western bank of an estuarine channel, a description that fits with the topography of the site described here.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 29 March 2006.
