Summary

Rowan House dates to the early 19th century, and is of red brick with a slate roof. This three bay, two-storey double pile plan building has a symmetrical classical façade and hipped roofs to the west and south fronts. In the grounds is a blacksmith's and wheelwright's forge (NHER 20994).

Listing Description excerpt:
"House. Early 19th century. Red brick, slated roof. Three bay, two storey double pile plan. Symmetrical classical façade to west front….Central four panel door, reeded frame...South return forms separate façade, carstone. Hipped roofs to west front and south front, two brick stacks in valley.

Dates from around 1800 (after 1780 as bricks have horizontal skintlings) though (S1) gives names of mid 18th century owners; this must be a mistake or from a previous house. A wine cellar said to be recorded on an earlier sale advertisement was not found.
