Full Description
1964.
Triangular shaped arrowhead. Field 132. Context 2 at 6861 9013.
R. R. Clarke (NCM).
22 March 1988. Fenland Project fieldwalking.
Reasonably well weathered though recently drilled. Several discrete concentrations of material identified:
Site FWL EW (c. 1; general scatter).
Small number of worked flints. Not closely datable.
Site FWL EV (c. 3; TL 6859 9030).
On mineral soil, recently exposed through peat loss. Small scatter of worked flint. Max dimensions 18m E/W x 14m N/S. Flints not closely datable. Concentration insufficient for this site to be included in the final publication.
Site FWL 179 (c. 4; 6859 9024).
Spread over ridge emerging from peat. Moderate to abundant spread of 'pot boilers'. Max dimensions 38m N/S x 25m E/W.
Site FWL 180 (c. 5; TL 6856 9043).
On flat plateau of mineral soil just emerging through peat. Sparse to moderate flint spread and a few 'pot boilers'. Max dimensions 41m N/S x 36m E/W. At 0.7m OD. The worked flints included an imcomplete at least partially ground Neolithic axe and pieces of Mesolithic/Early Neolitic and possible Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age date. A single sherd of possible Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age pottery was also found.
For further details see project archive (S1) and final publication (S2). Finds now held by Norwich Castle Museum.
F. Healy (NAU) and R. Silvester (NAU). Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 3 September 2013.
