Summary

A range of prehistoric objects were found in this field between 1950 and 1970 and further material was recovered during systematic fieldwalking undertaken as part of the Fenland Project in 1985. Since 1993 the site has been subject to fieldwalking and metal-detecting on numerous occasions, with many additional finds recovered. A large number of prehistoric worked flints have been recovered, the earliest of which are several Mesolithic pieces, including 3 microliths. A range of Early Neolithic material has also been found, including leaf arrowheads and serrated flakes/blades. Later Neolithic and Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age finds include several flaked and polished flint axeheads and a range of arrowheads and other flint tools. Several sherds of Beaker pottery and two possible Food Vessel sherds have also been found. Metal-detecting has also recovered several Bronze Age metal objects including two flat axeheads, a dagger and two rapiers. Later finds include possible Iron Age pottery, a small number of Roman pottery sherds and metal objects, a medieval buckle and a potentially post-medieval ring.
