Summary

An 18th century and later limewashed brick house, two storeys high with attics. Its entrance is in a one storey wing to the east. The grounds of the house are bounded by 18th century flint and brick walls (now recorded separately as NHER 64645).

Listing Description excerpt:
"18th century, two storey and attic, brick, limewashed, first floor band, two near-flush frame sash windows at first floor, one with glazing bars remaining, also small casements. Entrance in one storey wing to east, with six-panel door, and small casement each side.
Ludham House [NHER 47412] and Outbuilding [NHER 47411] and Westward House [NHER 47442] and Outbuildings [NHERs 47443 and 47762] form a group."

(S2) & (S3) in file (also including NHER 47443 and 47762) suggests building dates from around 1730 on documentary grounds. A massive flint platform under the floor may be connected with a brewery that was here; there was also a ropewalk to the east (NHER 47662).

Walls surrounding the garden to the south of Westward House were also listed Grade II in 1972. These are now recorded separately as NHER 64646.
