Full Description
October 2006. Norfolk NMP
Cropmarks of rectilinear field boundaries of medieval to post medieval date are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S2). These cropmarks are centred on TG 3023 1123 and were previously recorded as part of NHER 8493. A group of rectilinear field boundary ditch cropmarks are present on alignments similar to that of the modern field pattern. Some of the boundaries are represented by double or triple linear ditches. These fields are generally rectangular in plan and range in size from 26m by 99m to 114m by 175m. They are located immediately to the west of Manor Farm and are likely to be of medieval to early post medieval date. These boundaries are not marked on the 1839 Little Plumstead tithe map (S3) or later maps. Further medieval to early post medieval field boundary cropmarks are present to the north of Manor Farm (NHER 45125). Isolated linear ditch cropmarks of unknown date are present within this group on different alignments to the main field system.
