Full Description
November 2008. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of rectilinear field boundaries of probable medieval to early post medieval date are visible on aerial photographs (S1), centred at TG 3015 1151. These cropmarks are located to the north of Manor Farm at Little Plumstead. Rectilinear field boundaries are present on a similar alignment to the modern field pattern, along with two diagonal northeast-southwest linear ditch features which appear to be earlier than those on a modern alignment. The longest of these two ditches runs from TG 3017 1168 to TG 3011 1134, and both these northeast-southwest ditches appear likely to be a continuation of a pair of ditches on the same alignment to the south, part of NHER 45123.
These features are not marked on the 1839 Little Plumstead tithe map (S2) and it is likely that they are a continuation of the field system cropmarks present to the east (NHER 45125) and south (NHER 45123).
