Full Description
September 1975. Pump on Queens Square.
Encased in wood, about 1.8m (6ft) high with acorn finial. Full length stone plaque says it was enclosed for Queen Victoria's Jubilee in 1897. Recently restored.
E. Rose (NAU) 26 September 1975.
Is Queen Square the old market place? If so, the pump would stand on the approximate site of the old cross, removed in 1787, although 'a mound' marked the site afterwards.
E. Rose (NAU).
Yes this was the market place. See Historic Gardens Survey (S1).
Restored again 2001.
Newspaper cuttings (S2) in file.
