Full Description
January 2008. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks described below were previously recorded as part of NHER 36447.
A possible ring ditch is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1)-(S2), centred at TG 2751 1565. It could represent the site of a Bronze Age round barrow, as it appears to form part of a linear barrow cemetery (NHER 50816) with cropmark features to its northwest and southeast. At the same time, the cropmarks are not entirely convincing, and the possibility that they are of non-archaeological origin, or represent a different phase of activity, cannot be ruled out.
The ring ditch is visible only intermittently, but appears to be decidedly oval in plan. Too little is visible for any meaningful dimensions to be recorded. If it is a prehistoric funerary site, a pit-like cropmark located within it, southeast of centre, may have held an associated burial or votive deposit; however, this mark could instead be a product of the underlying geology.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 22 January 2008.
