Summary

A large number of Neolithic and Beaker period worked flints in museums are recorded as being found at Santon. This includes Neolithic axeheads and harpoons and Beaker period barbed and tanged flint arrowheads. The exact nature and location of these discoveries are unknown.

FINDS IN THE CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY MUSEUM OF ARCHAEOLOGY AND ANTHROPOLOGY

1 "large wedge-shaped flint nodule from Santon…possibly used to soften hides by drawing them over it" (S8).

FINDS IN OTHER MUSEUMS

The Thetford Museum holds a number of flints that are recorded as having been found in Santon. These include several that were recovered by W. G. Clarke during the early 20th century. The Clarke finds include 2 Mesolithic punch blades (A618, A619; possibly THEHM : 1976.50). These were identified by R. Jacobi and are noted in (S9).

OTHER KNOWN DISCOVERIES

In 1992 information on a polished flint axehead from Santon, Norfolk was found amongst the papers of Bill Cummins and passed to the Norwich Castle Museum. At the time it was recorded this object was in the 'F. S. Clarke Collection' (No 1236). See drawing (S10) and (S11).
