Location

Map sheet TL88NW
Civil Parish LYNFORD, BRECKLAND, NORFOLK

Map

Before afforestation this was the centre of Halfmoon Plantation.
(S1) and (S2) said this is the site of Caldecot deserted medieval village, and not Coldharbour Plantation on TL 78 NE (NHER 5653).

July 1977 .
A ride cuts through the forest, and in it are visible some slight banks, but not enough to form a decision.
E. Rose (NAU), 27 July 1977.

See NHER 42026 for another alternative location for Caldecote.
D. Gurney (NLA), 7 October 2005.

February 2018. 'Brecks from Above' and Breckland National Mapping Programme.
Earthworks at this location have been recorded as part of the more extensive site NHER 62073. The pattern of the earthworks is irregular, complex and probably multi-phase. None looks characteristic of settlement, but the possibility that some relate to the former village of Caldecote cannot be ruled out. See NHER 62073 and associated mapping for further details, including sources.
S. Tremlett (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 4th February 2018.
