Map

March 2008.
World War Two anti tank blocks are visible on aerial photographs (S1). Four anti tank blocks were located at the eastern end of the road bridge over the River Great Ouse at Stowbridge at TF 6033 0700. Two blocks were located on each side of the road and it is likely that they formed a road block protecting the river crossing. The blocks appear to be cubes, rather than the dragon’s teeth blocks which survive at the west end of the bridge (NHER 32375). These anti tank obstacles were supported by pillboxes to the north and south of the bridge (NHER 51402-3) and by a spigot mortar emplacement (NHER 35921) and a possible weapons pit (NHER 35922) on its western approach.
J. Albone (NLA), 31 March 2008

Note: Dragon's teeth at west end (NHER 32375) no longer survive.
