Full Description
Pre 1904. Stray Find.
Found by Croxton park before 1904:
1 Palaeolithic flint handaxe.
This discovery is recorded in the notes of W. G. Clarke (S1). Possibly the "Chellean Acheulean" site mentioned in (S2).
Information from (S3).
This find is also noted in (S4), on (S5) and in (S6) and (S7), although no additional information is given.
Croxton Park was a small landscape park that lay to the east of Croxton Park House (NHER 15055, TL 859 881), immediately to the east of the Thetford parish boundary. The fact that this find is recorded as having been found in Thetford parish would suggest that it was found somewhere to the west of the park, perhaps in one of the many quarry pits that can be seen in this area on the 1st Edition O.S map.
Amended and expanded by P. Watkins (HES), 1 July 2013.
