RECENT FINDS

13 September 1952. Fieldwalking.
Various worked flints of possible Mesolithic date collected by J. J. Wymer from the Two Mile Bottom fire strip. The fire strips were the narrows belts of open ground that lay on either side of the railway line. Numerous worked flakes were observed, of which 12 were retained due to their possible Mesolithic character. A Mesolithic small 'graver' (borer) of "screw-driver type" was also recovered. Information from (S2). These finds believed to now be part of the Wymer Collection held by Royal Holloway, University of London (W1288-1301).
P. Watkins (HES), 23 July 2013.

26 July 1979. Stray Find.
Flint flake, possibly from a polished flint axe found by J. J. Wymer on "track near the Insulation Blocks Factory". Information from (S3). The exact location of this find is unclear as this factory (TL 851 867) lies close to many different tracks. The flake itself presumably also part of the collection held by Royal Hollloway (W3910).
P. Watkins (HES), 23 July 2013.
