Map

November 2008. Norfolk NMP.
A possible sub-rectangular enclosure, of unknown but possibly Iron Age to Roman date, is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs (S1), centred at TG 2948 1048. It is adjacent to an area of multi-period cropmarks (NHER 51944), which may be later in date than this feature.

The enclosure is truncated by Middle Road to the south, but appears to be sub-rectangular in plan. It measures up to 53m wide, and at least 31m in length. and has one relatively clear entrance located east of centre on its northern side, at TG 2955 1092.

It is difficult to date this feature securely, but it is similar in character to an enclosure dated to the Iron Age to Roman period (NHER 51945), 350m to the northeast. An Iron Age Gallo-Belgic E gold stater was found in the near vicinity in 1894 (NMR number TG 21 SE 12). However, the possibility that it is related to the medieval to post medieval farmstead in the vicinity (NHER 51944) cannot be ruled out.
E. Bales (NMP), 18 November 2008.
