Summary

In 1961 a trench dug for a new sewer discovered a possible curtain wall relating to the medieval bailey along with associated ditches. Later, in 1969, a number of Saxon skeletons were found in the nearby Water Meadows opposite Red Castle. Recent dredging of another ditch parallel to the Lesser Ouse recovered several medieval pottery sherds.
