Map

2008 - 2009. Warrens of Breckland field survey.
The earliest known date for the warren and lodge is 1482 where the site is mentioned in the Register of Thetford Priory. A site visit found no traces of the boundary banks and the only archival evidence for the boundaries is a map in the 1898 sales particulars, which also shows the lodge clearly outside the perimeter of the warren. This could suggest that the original warren may have covered a much larger area. The lodge site is marked on the 19th century ordnance survey maps as 'Old Lodge'. The buildings currently located near to the site of the lodge are mid-19th century but a range of ruined Victorian flint farm buildings further down the slope may incorporate flint from the earlier warren lodge. The warren was leased to the Duchy of Lancaster in the late medieval period.

February 2011. Norfolk NMP.
The earthworks and former earthworks of a series of banks and boundaries are visible on aerial photographs on Snarehill Heath. While it is possible that these boundaries merely relate to post medieval woodland and heathland boundaries, it is also feasible that they relate to medieval warren boundaries, and have been recorded as NHER 54580.
S. Horlock (NMP), 18 February 2011.
