Summary

Probable field boundary and/or enclosure ditches of possible medieval to post medieval date are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs. They form part of a much larger area of such cropmarks, across which several phases of activity are apparent. Unfortunately, the density and complexity of the larger cropmark site is such that it is not possible to readily group elements together as a single phase. This has only been possible for the cropmarks recorded here, and those forming the overlapping site NHER 52490, which are of possible Iron Age to Roman date.

Some of the cropmarks described below were previously been recorded as part of NHER 9585.
Probable field boundary and/or enclosure ditches of possible medieval to post medieval date are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1)-(S10), centred at TG 2431 0517. They form part of a much larger area of such cropmarks, across which several phases of activity are apparent. Unfortunately, the density and complexity of these cropmarks as a whole is such that it is not possible to readily group elements together as a single phase. This has only been possible for the cropmarks recorded here, and those forming the overlapping site NHER 52490, which are of possible Iron Age to Roman date, but even between these two relatively coherent areas there is considerable scope for confusion. The general character and orientation of the cropmarks described here suggests a relatively late, medieval to post medieval date; while not depicted on any of the historic maps consulted, they conform (in places) to a similar, irregular pattern of enclosure as that shown on the maps.
