Full Description
Various Iron Age and Roman objects known to have been recovered in the Brettenham area during the 19th and 20th centuries but with no additional information regarding provenance. It is likely that at least some of these were recovered on or near the substantial Roman settlement that has been identified in this parish (NHER 5653).
FINDS IN NORWICH CASTLE MUSEUM
1953 or before. Stray Find.
1 ?Iron Age pottery spindle whorl.

Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 6 November 2015.
OTHER REPORTED DISCOVERIES
Pre December 1986. Metal-detecting.
Found at Brettenham:
7 Roman coins.
Identified by T. Gregory (NCM), see list in file. No provenance recorded.
P. Watkins (HES), 6 November 2015.
1980s or before.
At some time, most likely during the 1980, a Roman copper alloy knife handle depicting an erotic scene was seen for sale in [1]. See photograph (S2).
This object was from Norfolk and according to a note by T. Gregory (NCM) had possibly been found at Brettenham. The composition of the scheme (which depicts two adults, one of which is seated on the back of a dwarf) is very similar to that on the handle of a Roman folding knife recently found in Hampshire (PAS ID HAMP-4D3135).
P. Watkins (HES), 6 November 2015.
