Summary

An undated pit, postulated as a prehistoric dwelling, was partially excavated in 1938. Prehistoric flint flakes and pot boilers were recovered.

Summer 1938. Excavation.
One of three alleged 'pit dwellings' on Bard Hill, Salthouse Heath, identified by A.Q. Watson. Partially excavated by Watson in the summer of 1938. Flint flakes and pot boilers found. He reached undisturbed soil at 3 to 3 1/2 feet (90cm to 106cm) below level of ground. Pit dwellings noted in W.G. Clarke's articles on Norfolk Barrows published in The Antiquary in 1913 (S3).
