FINDS IN MUSEUM COLLECTIONS

The British Museum's Upper Palaeolithic/Mesolithic collections include a flint blade from Weybourne that was donated by S. H. Warren (2011,8114.870). This is recorded as having been found "above Weybourne" in a "cutting on road to Bodham". The road mentioned is almost certainly that which now runs past Weybourne Station, whilst the reference to "above Weybourne" suggests it was found on the higher ground somewhere in the vicinity of Sandy Hill, in the southernmost part of the parish. The road also passes through a pronounced cutting at this point. A number of other Mesolithic flints are known to have been found on Sandy Hill (NHER 6257).

The Norwich Castle Museum holds a collection of "undated prehistoric flint implements" from Weybourne that were donated by H. H. Hall in 1924 (NWHCM : 1924.83.61). The museum accession number indicates that these finds were from a site Halls had designated Site 61, the location of which is unknown.

REPORTED DISCOVERIES

Weybourne is listed in (S1) as one of the locations that had produced "Boulder Clay Type" Neolithic worked flints prior to 1907. The finder's are listed as W. G. Clarke himself and G. Rye; neither of whom appears to have donated any of their finds from Weybourne to the local museums.
