Summary

Cropmarks of a possible Bronze Age ring ditch are visible on aerial photographs from 1996. Other ring ditches are present in the vicinity of this and may be part of a dispersed barrow cemetery (NHER 56267). However, there is some ambiguity about the origin this feature and its possible that the feature may be natural in origin.

June 2012.
Cropmarks of a possible ring ditch are visible on aerial photographs from 1976 (S1 and S2). Other ring ditches are present in the vicinity of this and may be part of a dispersed barrow cemetery (NHER 56267). However there is some ambiguity about this feature. Aerial photos from 1946 (S3 and S4) show the cropmarks in reverse and may indicate this is a pond feature. There is a rectangular feature in the centre of the ring ditch on the 1976 photos which appears more rectangular on the 1946 photos and may be an antiquarian trench or saw pit through a barrow.

June 2022. Aylsham and Brampton Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
The cropmarks of a possible ring ditch (see above) of an uncertain date are seen on aerial photographs (S5 and S6). The origin and date of the feature is uncertain. The cropmark on the aerial photographs also aligns with the position of a pit feature on the visualised lidar data. It is likely that the ring ditch may relate to a natural feature, pond or former extractive pit rather than an archaeological feature. Therefore, the feature has not been mapped as part of this project.
