Summary

The cropmarks of multiple possible Bronze Age ring ditches are seen on aerial photographs. It is likely that the features were part of a dispersed Bronze Age barrow cemetery. It is also possible that two of the ring ditches (NHER 57877 and 57878) may be natural rather than archaeological in origin.

Map

ORIGINALLY RECORDED UNDER NHER 11666 AND NHER 52544.

June 2012.
Cropmarks of at least seven ring ditches are visible on aerial photographs from 1976 (S1-S3), 1996 (S4-S8) and 2006 (S9). These appear to be the remains of a Bronze Age barrow cemetery. A causewayed ring ditch (NHER 57881) to the north east may be related.

June 2022. Aylsham and Brampton Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
The cropmarks of multiple possible Bronze Age ring ditches (see above) can be seen on aerial photographs (S1-10). The features most likely relate to the site of a dispersed Bronze Age barrow cemetery. The ring ditches have been recorded individually as NHER 56265, 57877, 57878, 57879, 57880, 56266 and 65627. It is possible that two of the ring ditches (NHER 57877 and 57878) may be natural rather than archaeological in origin and have therefore not been mapped as part of this project.
