Summary

The cropmarks of a possible ring ditch of an uncertain date are visible on aerial photographs. The ring ditch has been previously suggested to have related to a Bronze Age ring ditch. However, the feature is likely to be natural in origin or possibly relate to a former extractive pit. A number of other ring ditches are located in the vicinity and may relate to a dispersed Bronze Age barrow cemetery (NHER 56267).

June 2022. Aylsham and Brampton Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
The cropmarks of a possible ring ditch (see above) of an uncertain date are seen on aerial photographs (S3 and S5-S6). The origin of the feature is uncertain. A dense area of geological cropmarks can be seen on the consulted sources and the position of the possible the ring ditch also correlates with a pit feature seen on the visualised lidar data (S6). The feature is most likely natural in origin or possibly relates to a former extractive pit. Therefore, the feature has not been mapped as part of this project.
