Map

April to July 1999. Archaeological excavation and watching brief, Brisley to Bushy Common Pipeline. Site 7.
A scatter of Late Neolithic or Bronze Age flint, possibly indicating occupation activity, was recovered during the archaeological watching brief along the Transco Brisley to Bushy Common pipeline, and is recorded as Site No. 7. It is located in the field to the north-east of Home Farm, Beetley, in a field that had been unavailable for fieldwalking during the pre-construction survey. A number of Late Neolithic or Bronze Age flints were recognisable tools, including two 'cutting flakes', six scrapers, an end scraper, two knife fragments and a possible piercer fragment. Three cores and seventeen predominantly hard-hammer struck flakes were also likely to be of Neolithic or Bronze Age date. A small number of potentially earlier pieces were also recovered including a possible Mesolithic microlith and several Mesolithic or Early Neolithic flakes and blades.

A geophysical anomoly at the northern end of the field (NHER 34115) was found to correspond with a recently removed field boundary. Others to the south corresponded with an area of probable alluvial deposition and another probable post-medieval boundary (NHER 34116)
