Map

1975. Stray Find.
Found by R. Jacobi:
Mesolithic/Neolithic flints scattered over large area. Reported by finder but not seen.
Information from (S1).
According to a note subsequently added to (S1) the finds recovered at this time also included:
1 Late Saxon pottery sherd (Thetford ware).
1 medieval pottery sherd (Early Medieval).
These are recorded as having been donated to the Norwich Castle Museum in December 1981, although they do not appear to be amongst the accessioned finds from Runton. The museum does however hold a Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age barbed and tanged flint arrowhead and an undatable prehistoric flint scraper that are listed as having been found here in 1975 (NWHCM : 2001.250). It is perhaps more likely that the arrowhead is the one found in 1981 (see below).
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 17 July 2014.

Pre 26 March 1981. Fieldwalking.
Field full of daffodils. Finds recovered by R. Jacobi and [1]:
Mesolithic/Neolithic flint flakes.
1 Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age barbed and tanged arrowhead (stem and barbs broken, length 37mm).
4 medieval pottery sherds (3 very small, worn unglazed and 1 green glazed). Left in situ.
Reported by finders but not seen.
Compiled by E. B. Green (NCM) 26 March 1981.
Information from (S1).
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 17 July 2014.

April 1981. Fieldwalking.
Area walked by S. White (NAU):
No medieval sherds found.
Dense scatter of post-medieval pantiles and brick at east end.
2 post-medieval pottery sherds by track (1 rim sherd with internal greenglaze and 1 with brown glaze). Pottery identified by A. Rogerson (NAU) as Fulmodeston type.
Finds retained by S. White (NAU) to be given to NCM later?
Information from (S1).
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 17 July 2014.
