Summary

Old Hall Farmhouse is a two-storey brick house with a pantiled roof constructed around 1700. It is set within a circular moat (see NHER 5391) and is believed to be the remaining side wing of a much larger house likely constructed in the late 16th century.

October 1951. Listed, Grade II.
Farmhouse. Circa 1700. Brick with pantiled roof. Remaining side wing of a much larger house. 2 storeys with attic. 5 bays of windows mainly blocked with 2 original 2-light mullion and transom windows and one replica at first floor and 2 later sash windows with glazing bars at ground floor. Rough skewback arches at ground floor. Moulded brick platband and modern gabled porch. 2 semi-external stacks to rear each with 3 partly rebuilt octagonal shafts. Narrow windows with glazing bars. Plain platband. 5 sash windows with wide glazing bars beneath rough skewback arches in gable-end of stump of main wing. Fine staircase opposite entrance with substantial turned balusters.

Old Hall is surrounded by a circular moat and is likely a remnant of a larger 16th century building with much later modification.

1975. Field Observation.
Inside large circular moat, now ornamentalised, present building is only a fragment of original house, Dated by Pevsner (S2) to late 17th century and listed (S1) as 1700, it may have an older core. Two storeys and attics, five bays mostly blocked; one original two-light mullion and transom window remains. Two semi-external stacks to rear with partly rebuilt octagonal shafts. Five windows in gable end of stump of main wing. Fine staircase.
