Full Description
1961. Earthworks on St Joseph's aerial photographs. Note on NCM map, with 'foundations' across road to east. Aerial photographs show number of earthwork rectangular enclosures. Tofts?

The foundations mentioned were exposed during agricultural operations and were of flint and locally believed to be cottages. Covered in again. Information from [1] via B.Cushion (NLA), March 1993.

Visited during NLA/Royal Commission for Historic Monuments Earthwork Survey.
West half of field has an approximate 40m near rectangular ditched enclosure with entrance to north and possible access to smaller enclosure to south. Ditches about 8m wide and 0.5m deep.
Enclosure to west has small fragment of flint masonry on surface, and both have a scatter of very abraded brick and tile fragments (post medieval).
Enclosures further east have toft like appearance, one with platform (three pottery sherds), and possible drainage ditches. Post medieval brick sluice structure (not working) at east end of stream. West enclosure shows on NRO C/Sca 2/53 1805 Enclosure Award Map as belonging to Rector of Stody.
Finds:
A: Rectory enclosures.
Post medieval brick fragments, tile. Not retained.
Medieval; two unglazed sherds (one large with white inclusions).
Post medieval clay pipe fragment.
B: Toft further east.
Medieval; two unglazed sherds.
One Grimston Ware (glazed sherd).
