Map

E. Rose (NAU)

6 May 1987. Site visited by J. J. Wymer (NAU) when being quarried for gravel.
No trace of flints, but at TF 798 150 approximately (landscape having changed) a brick structure about 1.3m square was dug out to a depth of 1.50m from surface, to which brickwork reached.
Hollow with glazed bricks inside.
Other brick rubble over green clay to south (see diagram in file).
This must be the kiln marked on (S1).
Two glazed samples are in the Rural Life Museum (kiln is in Southacre parish).
J. Wymer (NAU) and E. Rose (NAU) 1 June 1987.

A second kiln was exposed soon afterwards, to the north, clearly a brick kiln.
See (S2) in file.
E. Rose (NAU) 25 November 1987.

Copies of photographs, and dimensions, on kiln two taken by [1] are in file.
See (S3).

Kiln is shown on this site on Faden's Map 1797 (S4).
