Summary

A late 18th century great house, built in red brick and three storeys high. It has a central door above which is an arched fanlight. The upper storey to the rear (north) of the building is built over an earlier two storey 16th/17th century structure of brick and flint, with small blocked windows and a chimney stack at its western end. Much of the external detail of this part has been obscured by later rendering.

(S1) quotes (S2) as dating this to 1733, but this seems to be a confusion with the Old Hall (NHER 6634). The main block of this building seems far later than that, perhaps of about 1780-1800; Georgian, five bays, three storeys (top smaller) central door with arched fanlight; dentilled cornice; Flemish bond red brick. The upper storey and cornice also occur on the rear (north) elevation, above a two storey older block parallel to the main block. This has a ground floor of flint and an upper floor of English bond red brick, both with small blocked brick windows and a stack at west end, but masked by modern accretions. Date late 16th/17th century. Excellent condition.
