Summary

Metal-detecting and systematic fieldwalking at this location between 2014 and 2025 recovered an undated lava quern fragment; prehistoric worked flints, including a possible Mesolithic microburin, Neolithic/Bronze Age flakes, borer and scraper; Iron Age, Roman, Early to Middle Saxon and medieval to post-medieval pottery sherds; Roman roof tile fragments; an Early/Middle Saxon fired clay loom weight; a post-medieval glass wine bottle seal; Late Iron Age (Roman issue), Roman, Middle Saxon and medieval to post-medieval coins; medieval to post-medieval jettons; post-medieval tokens and a range of other, Roman to post-medieval metal objects. These metal finds include Roman broochs, a bracelet and furniture stud; a Roman/Early Saxon military buckle; a probable Early Saxon brooch fragment; a Late Saxon brooch and stirrup-strap mount; a Late Saxon/medieval strap end; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; medieval horse-harness pendants, a rotary key, shoulder plate from whittle-tang knife, lead pot mend and lead weight; medieval/post-medieval thimbles, a copper alloy vessel repair and writing lead and post-medieval thimbles, coin weights, a harness mount, sword-belt mount, probable pastry jigger, crotal bell, rumbler bell and lead cloth seal.
