Summary

In 1948 near the south approach to the Trowse Railway Bridge an undatable pile structure was found over 6m from the road surface. It may be related to a similar structure known to exist nearby in the latter part of the 19th century.

1948. South approach to Trowse Railway Bridge.
Pile structure found at depth of 20ft (6.1m) from road surface during excavation for Yare Valley Sewerage Scheme.
No dateable finds. Perhaps links up with similar structure near by in latter part of 19th century. Seven piles dug through blue clay into sand or gravel.
