NHER 6926 (Monument record) - Prehistoric pot boiler concentration, medieval hollow way

Summary

Objects have been recorded on this site from the 1960s. They have included prehistoric flint flakes, as well as pottery sherds from the Roman, Late Saxon, medieval and post medieval period. It is also recorded that a possible hearth with 12th to 13th century pottery sherds was also noted, as well as a large pot boiler concentration. In 1972 excavation took place on this site on a possible hollow way. Post medieval pottery sherds were recovered, but preceding this were a number of road ditches of much earlier date, presumably at least medieval.

OS field 19 (incorporates old field 17).

1960-1970s. Surface finds. Medieval hearth and sherds; flint scatter and pot boilers. Roman site.
1972. Hollow Way excavated.
1994. Medieval pottery found.

Found close to Context 4 by a farm worker:
1 Neolithic flaked flint axehead. See drawing (S1).
