Map

1965. Stray Find.
Found on surface of ploughed field about 750 yards [865m] north-east of Manor Farm:
1 prehistoric perforated quartzite macehead. Donated to Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 1965.501). See drawing (S1). Information from (S2). This discovery was reported in (S3).
Although recorded as Neolithic it appears that this is a relatively simple macehead (apparently unmodified apart from its central hour-glass perforation) and possibly what would now be classed as a pebble mace. Objects of this type are generally not seen as closely datable, having been found in both Mesolithic and later prehistoric contexts. It should though be noted that this object is not one of the pebble maceheads listed in (S4).
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 2 July 2014.
