Full Description
May 1973. Surveyed during MPBW funded rapid moat survey.
See sketch plan in file.
J. Allen (NLA) 15 August 2001.
7 October 1976. Visit by E. Rose (NAU).
Curved moat noted by P. Wade-Martins (NAU) in 1969. This is a curved carr now, but owners of Manor House also state it is a moat.
E. Rose (NAU) 7 October 1976.
Ordnance Survey records this as a drainage channel.
Information from Ordnance Survey Records.
R. J. Rickett (NAU) 7 August 1990.
September 2023. Wendling Beck and Fransham Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
The curvilinear drainage channel or moat described above, together with its external bank, are visible as earthworks on visualised lidar data (S1). Its appearance more resembles a drainage channel, rather than a medieval moat. As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently (2017) it is probable that the earthworks still survive.
S. Tremlett (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 22 September 2023.
