Full Description
Kiln. See (S1). There is now no access to this island and nothing can be seen from across the river.
E. Rose (NAU), 21 March 1978.
14 October 1979.
Norfolk Industrial Archaeology Society party reached island and recorded circular domed structure, 2.7m (9 foot) diameter aperture in roof and two floor level besides door; narrow red bricks lined with soot; coke oven to convert wherry borne coal to coke for maltings?
E. Rose (NLA).
This site is shown on 6ins O.S. map 1885-6 (S2) as a "kiln". It is possible that it was built in the 1770s with the nearby maltings.
