Summary

A World War Two Type 24 pillbox has been recorded as an extant structure to the west of Wayford Bridge. It has been visited on the ground, is visible on aerial photographs and is depicted by modern Ordnance Survey mapping. It forms part of a larger group of World War Two anti-invasion defences in the vicinity of the bridge, which as a river crossing was clearly a location of strategic importance.

The World War Two Type 24 pillbox described above is visible as an extant structure on aerial photographs (S1)-(S2), centred at TG 3450 2475. It is also depicted by modern Ordnance Survey 1:2500 mapping. It appears to have been sited to face towards Wayford Bridge.
