Full Description
About 213m (700 feet) North of Quaker Farm.
Late medieval well of flints with brick drain on west side.
17th century material in top 1.2m (4 feet) of infill. Below this peaty material to water level at 2m (6 feet 6 inches) from ground surface and 1.7m (5 feet 6 inches) from top of masonry. 14th and 15th century pottery round top of well. Top of peat 1.3m (4 feet 3 inches) below top of masonry which was 0.3m (1 foot) below surface of field.
Excavated by R. R. Clarke (NCM) and [1], 30 August 1958 for NCM.
6m (20 feet) south of well was early medieval refuse dump.
Brick drain; is this the 'culvert' drawn in file? 51cm (20 inches) below ground, 63cm (25 inches) deep, 48cm (19 inches) across, bricks measured 23cm by 11.5cm by 7cm (9 inches by 4 1/2 inches by 2 3/4 inches).
