Full Description
1957. Stray Find.
Found by [1] at approximately [2]:
1 Mesolithic-type flint axehead. See drawing (S1). Information from (S2).
This discovery was first reported in (S3), which listed a different (presumably incorrect) grid reference ([3]) to that recorded in the NCM's records. This find is listed as a tranchet axehead in (S4).
In 1960 [1] submitted a drawing of a Mesolithic axehead that he had found in Felmingham in 1957 (S5). The grid reference marked on the drawing ([4]) placed this find in a field to the north-east of this site and as a result a separate record was created (NHER 12432, now revoked). It is however clear from the drawing that this is the same axehead as that described above.
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 10 June 2014.
1961. Stray Find.
Found by [1] at roughly the same location as the 1957 find:
2 Neolithic chipped flint axeheads. See drawings (S6) and (S7). Information from (S8).
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 10 June 2014.
February 1989. Fieldwalking.
Found by [1] west of Stow Heath:
2 undatable prehistoric flint hammerstones, 16 flakes and 1 crude end scraper.
1 Neolithic well-struck flint axe (butt end).
Roman pottery sherds (greyware including flanged bowl sherd).
