Full Description
Dairy Farm Cottages, formerly Newton Hall. Previously recorded under NHER 17238 (which now just documents the adjacent late medieval barn).

Visited by E. Rose (NAU).
Large, of three storeys, timberframed, the lower portions of the walls apparently clad in or replaced by brick, and the whole painted over; a brick extension on north-east to full height. Mullioned window under eaves at rear (south-west); other windows of all shapes and sizes. Interior not seen - occupied. Date of perhaps 16th or early 17th century but perhaps an older frame.

P. Watkins (HES), 26 February 2024.

1997. Building Survey.
Examination of house by E. Rose (NLA).
Showed it to be a later medieval crownpost hall, floored and extended in the 17th century and heightened in the 18th/19th. Presumably connected with adjacent moated site NHER 25678, and the barn (NHER 17238). Faden's map (S3) still shows this as a gentleman's seat in 1797.
See report (S4) for further details. These observations are also noted in (S5).
Previously recorded under NHER 17238.
E. Rose (NLA), 14 March 1997. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 26 February 2024.
2007.
Many windows removed and replaced by UPVC without planning consent. Enforcement authorised.
E. Rose (NLA), 19 July 2007.
