NHER 68098 (Cropmark and Earthwork record) - Site of a Bronze Age round barrow

The earthworks (since levelled) of a ring ditch, associated with a probable Bronze Age round barrow, are faintly visible on aerial photographs taken in 1946 (S1). The earthworks are subsequently levelled with the ring ditch visible as a cropmark on later (1974-2022) aerial photographs (S2-21). The presence of a central mound is uncertain. No trace of an earthwork mound was visible on the aerial photograph taken in 1946 (S1). It is possible that mound may have survived as a very low earthwork or had been previously levelled. Later aerial photographs (S7 and S17) appear to show a soilmark in the centre of the ring ditch which could relate to the site of a mound. However, it is also possible that the soilmark could relate to a geological feature. The possible internal mound or geological feature has been mapped by extent due to the uncertainty of its origin. The site forms part of a Bronze Age barrow cemetery (NHER 68100) along with the cropmarks of further Bronze Age ring ditches recorded in the vicinity.
