Brandon Railway Station.
Type: Railway Station
A railway station constructed between 1844-1845 and designed by John Thomas. The building was extended in the 1870s and 1880s.
The station walls are constructed of roughly-coursed knapped flint with grey-yellow gault brick dressings. The roof consists of Welsh slate (S2). The building is single-storey and symmetrical in plan, consisting of five sections that step back from the central entrance. The extensions in 1870/80s added a first floor to the east end of the building for station master's accommodation.
The exterior of the building includes six chimneys, placed over a parapet on a dividing wall between the five sections. There is a gabled parapet over the entrance bay to the north, and the entrance bays to the north and south both have a three-panelled door flanked by narrow sash windows. A single-story yellow brick extension was added to the north elevation of the station master's house in the late-19th or early-20th century.
The original booking hall was in the central section of the station.
Brandon station was in use from 1845 until the station closed to goods traffic in 1966 and became an unstaffed halt in 1967. The building was converted into offices at some point and has stood vacant since 2004 (S2).
