Summary

In 1948 traces of burnt earth, fragments of medieval or Saxon pottery and a Saxon whetstone were recovered during the construction of a new Rectory at this location.

1948. In building new rectory 46m (50yds) east of Taverham School 14m (15yds) from road and 4.6m (5yds) from front of rectory in digging trench for soakaway at depth of 46cm (18in) in sandy subsoil.
Traces of small fire or burnt earth, two fragments of unglazed pottery (one with strap handle).
Probably early medieval (11th-12th century) or perhaps Late Saxon + hone.
