Full Description
January 1924.
On the plantation at Drayton where a new wood has been made by unemployed I found a floor in a section. It was 0.6m (2ft) from the surface, topped by undisturbed yellow sand and humus, 0.9m (3ft) wide and extended westwards from the fall of the section for 0.6m (2ft). It consisted of charcoal 5 to 7.5cm (2-3in) thick with burnt flint and a few pot boilers, and rested on yellow sand which for a depth of 5cm (2in) had been turned red by heat.
W. G. Clarke (NCM), 16 January 1924.
Floor called Iron Age, but on what evidence? Date uncertain.
R. R. Clarke (NCM).
