Pre 1935. Stray Find.
According to (S1) "microliths" had been found in Costessey near the River Wensum. This appears to be a misreading of (S2), which simply notes that Costessey was one of the river valley locations that had produced "odd [Mesolithic] specimens" prior to 1935. This is almost certainly the isolated specimen of "…typical Mesolithic technique…" that Sainty later recorded having found "…at Old Costessey adjoining the Wensum" (S3). It is not clear from the context of this note whether Sainty was referring to a microlith or a larger implement such as a tranchet axehead.

Unknown date. Stray Find.
A note on (S1) records that a "polished axe" had been found in Costessey, presumably also close to the Wensum. No other details are given so the date of this discovery and the source of this information remain unclear.
