Summary

Various Grade II listed carstone and brick garden walls and associated gateways in grounds of Ingoldisthorpe Old Hall (NHER 12681). Notable elements include the section of wall in front of the hall, which has a 17th-century gateway containing a cast iron gate with Greek Revivial and Gothic motifs of c.1830. Other sections of wall are thought to date to c.1700.

Three separate elements listed:

'Garden wall with entrance gate 15 metres to south of Old Hall Farmhouse [NHER 12681]'.
Listing Description excerpt:
"Garden wall with gate on axis with south entrance of Ingoldisthorpe Old Hall Farmhouse [NHER 12681]. To east and north-east carstone tiles with brick dressings and triangular section carstone coping. With Flemish bond brickwork of high quality on north and west faces to garden, matching the wall attached to Old Hall Farmhouse (q.v.). Brick pier at north east, rusticated brick shaft with moulded brick plinth and cornice, rebate, stone cornice and pedestal supporting stone roundel. Carstone wall continues to east with 20th-century rusticated brick pier termination. Another section of wall continues detached to east (q.v.). To west parallel with south front of Old Hall Farmhouse a lower section of wall with central 17th-century gateway, carstone with brick dressings and quoins, stepped central lintel. Cast iron gate c.1830 with mixture of Greek Revival and Gothic motifs. Included primarily for group value with Ingoldisthorpe Old Hall Farm House [NHER 12681]."

"Garden wall attached at east to Ingoldisthorpe Old Hall Farmhouse [NHER 12681]. c.1700. Carstone laid in tiles with some brick dressings, triangular section carstone coping to north and east faces. Flemish bond brick of high quality to south and west faces. Two rusticated brick piers at north east corner now filled in with brick. Pier at south-east has rusticated brick shaft, moulded brick plinth and cornice and brick rebate; stone cornice and pedestel supporting stone roundel. Included for group value with Ingoldisthorpe Old Hall Farmhouse [NHER 12681]."

Garden wall. C.1700, now detached from walls to east and south of Old Hall Farm House [NHER 12681]. Carstone rubble, 20th-century brick rusticated pier at west, terminates at-east at junction with returned wall to north. Included primarily for group value.
