Summary

A brick tunnel and cellar were discovered in 1976 underneath the White Horse Hotel. The cellar is probably a 17th or 18th century wine cellar.

Report in (S1) of tunnels discovered by collapse of carpark outside White Horse Hotel, leading from inn to neighbouring
shops.
Tunnels brick vaulted, apparently deliberately blocked with rubble.
Fragments of wine bottles found.
Similar tunnels found nearby a few years ago.
(S1) suggests 17th to 18th century wine cellars.
