1964. Field Observation.

April and September 2022. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of part of large proposed development site.
The survey of this field identified no trace of the remains observed in 1964, although it should be noted that the survey also failed to identify additional building foundations uncovered by subsequent trial trenching nearby (see below).
See report (S3) and NHER 50496 for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 4 April 2026.

July-September 2025. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of part of large proposed development site.
The small number of trenches excavated in this field largely avoided the recorded site of this building. One trench did though uncover the remains of another building of likely post-medieval date at TG 1641 1544. This rectangular structure had chalk and mortar walls and although only partially exposed was clearly smaller than the building noted in 1964. It potentially represented some form of associated ancillary structure.
See report (S4) and NHER 50496 for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 4 April 2026.
